The practicality of life requires us to deal with all things as they come. This is the way of daily living. Regardless of its regularity, each mundane thing, in its arrival brings with it a new essence; and a means of manifestation. Though there may be distinctions that are apparent to the discerning eye; all things also be bring with them that miniscule trait or way, which finds itself being repeated.
Creativity is identical in its dual manifestation. It has both its easy and difficult parts. Creativity is Life itself; just as daily Life is the ultimate creativity. Doing any and all things is Art; the artist is simply the person who can identify that beauty. The outcomes and inexplicable coincidences found in quotidian routine or in doing simple things allows for a clear connection to an eternally constant voice. Following its cadence leads me to a blissful place. Being able to translate that connection and its effect into painting is the ultimate satisfaction coupled with unimpressed joy.
My creative journey is art filled with learning. Just as life is built on lessons learned and following in the footsteps of those that came before us, so art filled with the same concepts and exodus along the well-worn and, sometimes, for the brave the less travelled path.
Experimentation; responding to current issues; and the desire to contribute and participate not only to my own life but also to the lives of others and to the field of art as a whole has developed by creativity and my consciousness. Following has brought me to this new phase in my art and in turn that creation brings me development hand in hand with a shared past.
My art focuses on everyday objects that I chose because of their simple appearance and deep complexity. I like the challenge of trying to capture the definition of an object and accurately translating its lines, shapes, and light, tint and proper value level onto a canvas. It forces more introspection on things that we would otherwise take for granted.
I like making work that invites people to question their values and be uncomfortable. It forces people to break out of their boundaries, engage with, and learn from those who are different from them. Using what is well known, following what has come, gives the questioning a deeper impact.
That is why I am following, coming just after and seeing what has been overlooked.
